New York Assembly Republican Leader Will Barclay announced Monday he plans to circulate a resolution to impeach Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) as the governor faces twin scandals — an alleged coverup of coronavirus nursing home deaths and allegations of sexual harassment by former aides.
“The governor’s lost so much credibility and trust that we don’t feel like he can go forward and govern. So we want to move ahead, do this impeachment assembly,” Barclay said in a press conference with fellow Assembly minority members inside the New York State Capitol building.

CNY Central reports:
The resolution would have to be supported by the Democratic Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie to come to a vote. If passed by the Assembly, it would then go to the State Senate.
Speaker Heastie and Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins have not announced support for impeaching the governor, however, issued statements on Sunday evening pressuring him to resign.
The introduction of the impeachment resolution comes after five women have accused Cuomo of unwanted touching and harassment. The governor has responded in defiant fashion to the claims, asserting he “never touched anyone inappropriately” and that he will not resign.
