Comedian and talk show host Bill Maher had a sobering message for America: China has beat us because we’re too distracted with identity politics to remain the dominant world power.
During his Friday HBO show “Real Time”, Maher laid out why China is surpassing the U.S. in a number of categories, while the U.S. embroils itself in debates about Dr. Seuss and the gender identity of potatoes.
“We’re not losing to China,” said Maher. “We lost. We’re just waiting for the returns to come in.”
“You’re not going to win the battle for the 21st Century if you are a Silly People, and Americans are a Silly People,” said Maher. “That’s the classic phrase from Lawrence of Arabia when Lawrence tells his Bedouin allies that as long as they stay a bunch of squabbling tribes, they will remain a Silly People. Well, we’re the Silly People now.”
Maher then claimed China is succeeding as a country despite its totalitarian nature, compared to America’s dying democratic system.
“You know who doesn’t care that there’s a stereotype of a Chinese man in a Dr. Suess book? China. All 1.4 billion of them could give a crouching tiger flying f*ck. Because they’re not a silly people,” the liberal host explained.
“We all know China does bad stuff,” he said, “But there’s got to be something between a totalitarian government that knows what to do and a representative government that can’t do anything at all.”
Maher’s remarks come as reports emerged earlier this week projecting that China will surpass the U.S. economy by 2028.
Additionally, China’s navy has also recently surpassed the U.S. Navy fleet as Joe Biden’s administration seems more focused on making maternity flight suits available in the military.
Owen breaks down how recent events signify that Joe Biden is placing the United States in a weak position to its enemies.
